  • ever since i have started taking the ttc on a full time basis since last february, i have been a much happier man. in the summer, if you live downtown and everywhere you go is either downtown east to west id either ride my bike or walk - not because of the ttc being this or that, but because why spend time on the bus versus with wind in your hair. but during the winter, MY LORD, is it a relief. for me that means, not having to deal with shoveling a driveway, or spending an hour excavating my car and getting out onto a back laneway and out on the street. and it is there where i am filled with even more stress driving. im happy to have someone else do it. and one hundred and ten bucks for a metropass is fine by me and worth it. no parking fees. no insurance. no repairs. no oil changes. no parking tickets. no lease payments. no insular living. on the ttc you get to see the people that populate this city. you, especially with a metropass, get to come and go as you please. want a coffee from a place you just passed by. get off and come back on later. the buses are very spacious. much much better than they used to be when i was a kid. theyve added extra handles to hold on for the ride on the subway. for the most part everything is clean, from buses, to streetcars, to subways. what i dont like are miserable passengers and miserable ttc operators. passengers who get on and start letting loose on ttc operators because theyve been waiting for so long (granted no one likes to wait) are selfish, juvenile and obsessed with the negative. write a letter to the ttc. do they really think the ttc operator was purposely driving an extra 10 km slower, making coffee break stops every 2 streetcar stops, playing his turn in a game of chess all before he got there? i say grow up, petition if youd like, but at the proper sources. as for the ttc operators, for the most part they are very friendly. some take pleasure in life in general and make the ride lighthearted for everyone by being more of a tour guide than an a driver. there are, however, those who you can imagine have practiced the sourest face in the mirror for hours, who seem like theyve had chafing going on in their pants for decades, who always are thinking about killing their spouses. to some degree with the yahoos always giving them a hard time or trying to shirk the fare, you understand why, but everyday and moment is a new one. try to embrace it. the doors on buses with the push handle is weird to me. i find it a little sticky to push and they snap back quickly if you dont push them hard enough. the bells on poles are great. the announcing of the stops are great. and hopefully with more funding well get more subways, buses AND the TRANSIT CITY to get underway to make it better.
