| - I've been a Mountain Equipment Coop member since 1999. I would say over the past decade I've probably spent around $4000. This store has some of the best prices in Canada. In general, I've found they are cheaper than most chain and independent outdoor stores (eg. Europe Bound, Atmosphere, Le Baron, Adventure Guide, etc). You do have to know your prices though.
Over the past few years, I've also taken advantage of their warranty/refund policy. During certain seasons, you can get free shipping (w minimum purchase) if you buy online.
The house brand clothing/gear is exceptional value. Read reviews on their website before you buy, they don't censor it, as I've written poor reviews for some of their products and they are still posted.
Some of the stuff I've purchased here: backpacks, headlamps, tents, sleeping bags, clothing, shoes, lots of bicycle related things (really cheap), freeze dried food, travel gear.... I've also rented gear on occasion.
I have no knowledge of their watersports/skiing/climbing products. But I assume they are of similar value to the other products they carry.
Comparing MEC to their US counterparts, I would say they are better than REI and EMS.
