| - I hate to write a poor review amongst a bunch of great reviews, especially since we have had a great experience over the past year... however I cannot get over the last visit we had that left such a poor taste in my mouth.
We had our puppy fixed and when they were snipping him they noticed his bad breath and thought it could be a problem and he might need some teeth pulled. We were then referred to a "dog dentist" all the way down almost in South Carolina. Thinking this was my only option I drove down there and the charged me 285$ for someone to come in and look at my dogs teeth, then tell me exactly what Dilworth had already told me. Then they said I would need to come back for x-rays and a tooth cleaning which would cost 800$ and then they could tell me if they need to extract teeth - which would cost even more money. I understand that you have to put a dog under to do their teeth but the total cost in all is almost double what it cost to neuter the dog! Before I left they brought out a bunch of products and explained each one, at first I thought they were going to give them to me which might justify some of the 285$ fee, but then they started telling me how much each of them cost - $50 for 8oz. of dog mouth wash, 17$ for a toothbrush, 28$ for some rawhides (all products that I looked up when I got home and could have gotten for 1/3 of the cost online) - I then told them no thank you and left the office baffled at how I drove almost an hour to give away 285$. We emailed Dilworth about the issue and we also called Long Animal Hospital that said they could do the teeth cleaning, tooth pulling and consult for under 500$ which was what we were thinking it would cost to begin with. Dilworth came back to us via email and phone and we discussed the issues we had - they had a decent excuse that the place they sent us was the only place where the vets had extra training for teeth and reconstruction surgeries - however this was just a simple x-ray and potential tooth pull. We didn't see eye to eye on every issue, but they did agree that the nickel and dime scam for products was inappropriate and she thought that they were going to schedule everything at once - not have to go back and forth to this place paying money for a bunch of "consults", x-rays, and tooth pullings.
The whole thing really rubbed me wrong, especially since we ended up using Long Animal Hospital for the tooth issue and Dilworth never called us or emailed us afterward to follow up, almost like they just wanted to brush the whole issue under the table and hope we forgot about it. We just decided to switch over both our dogs to Long today. Again I hate to write a poor review because we have had good experiences here, but the lack of concern or customer care after we didn't go with their referral because we had serious concerns just made us not want to go back. I hope this review is helpful to anyone thats dog might have dental issues and if they refer you to The Carolina's Animal Hospital and Dental Clinic make sure you know what you are getting into before you drive all the way down there!
