  • Unless you're a real Beatles fan, or you have a lot of cash to blow, save your dough. If you're gonna spend this kind of moolah on a show only once this trip, go to see "Ka" or "O" first. At least in those shows, you'll see something *unique* - something that you really can't fathom seeing anywhere else. Heck, seeing Mystere, despite it's disappointing lack of character, would have a decent number of acrobatic features that'll leave you nodding your head in stunned approval. And Zumanity has... well... never mind about Zumanity. (And I won't insult your intelligence by mentioning Believe.) So back to LOVE. Why the 2-star? VALUE First of all, unless you adore the Beatles, this is really not one of the better values in Vegas. At $120/ticket minimum, going up to $200+, this is a serious headshaker. At any given Cirque show whether it be the touring company or in Vegas, you can expect: 1) Live music performed by an orchestra 2) Dazzling acrobatics & amazing feats of athleticism 3) Beautiful costumes and dramatic artistic performances LOVE has just ONE of these and I'll let you guess which one it is. Any one of the other Cirque shows in Vegas - Ka, O, Mystere, Zumanity, Believe - have all 3. COULDN'T WORK WITHOUT THE (recorded) MUSIC While I recognize that the Beatles are/were an exceptional talent, I'm not THAT gah-gah for their music. So the thing I have to ask is, could this show stand on it's own without the CD recording playing in the background and the answer is abso-frickin'-lutely not. It might sound unfair being that the whole show is themed around the Beatles but c'mon: It's a recording. At least with "Mamma Mia" you hear ABBA music but it's sung LIVE and there's a story. Meanwhile, I can play these Beatles songs off of iTunes for $18 permanently and get the same thing that everyone seems to be raving about with regard to this show and paying $120. Frankly, if this line of thinking really works, why not have the next Cirque show highlight the music of Elvis. And the next be U2. $120/ticket. Cha-CHING, baby. CHOREOGRAPHY? This one is weird. Granted I'm not performance arts major but I've seen my share of live performances which has me asking: Can someone tell me what sort of relationship the dance choreography had to the music other than tempo? This could have been performed to a Earth Wind & Fire album and made about the same amount of sense. If there's one word I could use to describe the dancing in this show, it'd be "ARMS". Lots and lots of ARMS. Arms flailing about. I'm confused by the majority of the reviews of LOVE. Have these folks been to any other Cirque shows? Are people just that nostolgic for Beatles recordings? Did they drink too many of the $18 "LOVE"-branded souvenir beverages from the concession stand?
