| - I love this store. Market District has it all going on. In the beginning, there were only markets. Over time, markets came together under a singular roof to save money and to make it easier for their customers. Eventually you had the all in one supermarket after several decades of convergence. The issue with this was that everyone only had a very general and rudimentary knowledge of any one area of the store.
Giant Eagle has taken a step backwards with their Market District concept and returned you to the point where there are small markets inside of one building. The different markets I noticed were: pharmacy, health and beauty, cheese, meats, dairy, fresh fruits and vegetables, cafeteria/commissary, candy, international, coffee, etc. I was flabbergasted not only at the quantities of items that were in each of these sections, but also by the fact that the associates actually knew and understood what they were selling.
I was in the coffee section just to watch as they roasted their own coffee beans. I walked through the cheese section and was astounded. I don't think I have seen a boutique cheese store with this many cheeses. I ended up with some gruyere, jarlsburg, and parmesiano reggiano cut directly from their respective wheels at the store.
I could go on and on. There is no way that Walmart can compete with this store when it comes to sheer quantities. This store couples the quantities with the quality. Sorry Publix, but I think I have a new love in my life.
