This beautiful preserve is a wildlife, nature and archaeological sanctuary with a granite summit located in Scottsdale. The hike is moderately of some 3+ miles. You will climb a little over 800 ft., with 1350 ft. of accumulated gain. Not a loop but the views are stunning as one would imagine. The daytime wildlife is not as lavish as the wildlife at sunset. Pigs and coyotes can be seen.
Tom's Thumb Trailhead & Marcus Landslide Trailhead are new trailheads, officially open. This area is a fantastic McDowell Sonoran Preserve destination for visitors of Pinnacle Peak and is the best vantage to discover the more remote, quieter, northern side of the McDowells. The trail itself is steep in areas and is comprised of huge boulder formations and excellent high Sonoran fauna.
