  • When I moved here in January I was looking for a solid gym where I could continue doing power based training but also get back to some of the old bro stuff. After being a gym-hobo for what felt like two months I settled on Mountainside, mostly because of the attitude of the employees when you walk in. Everyone is always up-beat and has a smile. Having been a member at numerous other Big Box/GLOBO Gyms in the past that wasn't always the case. There's been an upgrade with aerobic equipment, brand new treadmills, ellipticals, steppers and bikes from manufactured by Precorr. You can now set up an account and it will record all of your workouts and send you emails after every session. I'm unsure if this is synced with your billing account, but it would be pretty dope if it was. They removed the old circular spin-studio which add 500 sq feet to the gym floor proving more space, although I would have wanted some olympic platforms in that space the added TRX, rowers and pure open floor space were helpful. The Spin-studio was pushed back into the corner, so classes are still out there grinding. There's also a Yoga-Barre Serenity studio. And then a Class Studio where there's a variety of low end HIIT, ZUMBA, and hip hop type classes. There's gratuitous towels for showering and for your workouts. Each locker room has both a sauna and steam room. There's also a massage therapist, chiropractor/PT, and tanning bed on site. What stops Mountainside as a model from getting five stars is the lack of a pool for me. Because they're churning hot everywhere as a chain staying relevant, but as a Rugby player and Triathlete those are things that I need and enjoy. If you added a super clean 5ft deep, 25m pool to this model, it would be a world class facility.
