Oh dear. I'm not sure what to say about this place. I'll stick to the facts and hope that my review reaches the eyes of the owners as constructive feedback.
I popped in 2 weekend's ago to pick up some macarons. The first thing that hits you is the intense smell of deep fried donuts. I wonder if there's an exhaust fan in the kitchen. Doesn't seem like it. In fact, the 6 macarons I ordered smell and taste entirely like deep fried donuts. It's disappointing to say the least, especially after they were packaged one on top of the other, leaving the bottom 2 crushed and pummeled. The texture is off and is more akin to a crisp meringue which crumbles in your fingers no matter how delicately you hold it. And the service, was awful. Disorganized and obvious the gal behind the counter did not want to be there.
I believe in second chances so I popped in again last weekend for one of their gourmet donuts. Again, very disorganized, but alas, the woman behind the counter was pleasant enough and open to hearing my feedback about the macarons. The website claims to use "the highest quality ingredients", so I had some hope left for the butterscotch donut. I'd really like to know what high quality ingredients they are using in their kitchen. The donut was topped with an oil based whip cream substitute and the butterscotch filling was definitely not handmade. More like Jell-o butterscotch pudding mix. The donut itself was off in texture and bland.
As a former pastry chef, and guy who has eaten authentic macarons and authentic gourmet donuts, this place gets the thumbs down from me.
