  • Morning of VDay 2015. We waited in line for over an hour, & I felt ready to give birth by the time they let us through. It seems everyone got the same idea of eating breakfast here. Whatever. I figured the food would be amazing, so it didn't matter. The Wynn buffet failed to impress. It was among my absolute faves in 2006; in 2015, not so much. It seems the quality is just not the same. But did they simply fail to maintain the quality of their food, or did I just not know any better back in oh six? Maybe the rumors are true: in Vegas, they have a habit of cost-cutting -- by firing well-paid chefs & replacing them with cooks that can basically follow a recipe. We paid $30+/person for brunch & 'unlimited' drinks. Plus taxes & tip, that's around $45 per person. There were 4 of us, & we were to tip our server around $30 total. For that, I thought we should at least have gotten mediocre service. We didn't. Our server got us our first round of drinks, & then disappeared. Like the Wynn buffet 'quality' that I remember from '06. POOF. Just gone. Just done serving guests. The worst part was that with a seemingly vast array of food, I ran out of options. The selections were, I believe, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Mexican & Continental. But it seems they chose to please the 'majority': there were a bunch of meat dishes, yet very few corny, mundane seafood selections, & carbs to fill you up. I'm Pescetarian & need to eat all cooked stuff, since I'm also pregnant; my options were reaalllly limited. Eventually, hubby asked me if I wanted a veggie omelet. This had me going into an almost trance-like state, as I contemplated why in the world he was offering me a humble omelet when we just paid around $45 per person to eat at this fancy schmancy place. Maybe inflation is to blame, & that amount was just for the ambiance, photo ops & our limited 2-hr stay at the buffet. For that much, I really did feel like we deserved better options or special ones, not "recycled" food like frittatas, bread pudding, & deep fried stuff that masks the real taste of ingredients that are about to go bad. The overall selection did not seem special. Not "$45 special". Basically, I had some poor excuse for sushi (there were about 6 crappy selections for their rice-stuffed sushi rolls - it seems the ingredients were the same & only varied in amount & presentation), half an average omelet, 'recycled' food (lobster & something frittata, some fried shrimp thing), an A-OK congee, a bit of days old pretzel bread & some nothing-out-of-the-ordinary desserts. Nothing seemed exciting, or very fresh. I'm surprised to realize that I enjoyed some other buffet places more here in Vegas, local spots that charge about $10 or so less. I didn't feel that the Wynn buffet was worth the $45 per person. It's highway robbery at its finest: I'm overwhelmed by the cost of the buffet, & underwhelmed by the quality of the food & the service.
