  • I moved into the Scottsdale area about 2 years ago and have been a Type 1 Diabetic for roughly 25 years. My reason for choosing Endocrinology, Diabetes & Longevity Center of Arizona was mainly for the convenience of location. My dissatisfaction with their treatment is that in my opinion the ED&L put the bottom-line in front of the care of the patient. I have been going to ED&L for 2 years and with my appointment every 3-4 months, I have only seen an MD (Medical Doctor) maybe 1 time as I am seen by a PA (Physicians Assistant). They do not mind charging you the Specialist Co-Pay requested by your insurance even though you do not actually see a doctor - this charge will also be applied if you are only going in for blood work. I think, as with any business, you should get what you pay for. And with the rising cost of Specialist Co-Pays, ED&L is charging premium rates for the bare minimum of services provided. Mainly the way this practice is set up is much like the Wizard of OZ, for the most part you will never see the "man (or woman) behind the curtain." Also, since you are only going to allowed to work with a PA, if you have an issue that may be presented with a prescription needed for your feet - the PA will not be able to write that prescription under the direction of the MD. So they will refer you to a podiatrist or tell you to go see your Internal Med for something they can diagnose but cannot offer care for. Probably the first Endocrinology office that I have dealt with that does not offer support to a diabetic patient for their feet. However, they will try to get you into a pair of their comfy "diabetic" shoes they have in their display case. As for the office staff, they are polite but you can see from previous posts and from my own experience they are under-trained and unfortunately unwilling to go above and/or beyond for the support and care of the patient to act as the intermediary with a pharmacy or insurance company. If you are ever in a difficult situation with something not being covered be prepared to encourage your insurance company or pharmacy to call the ED&L office because as I was told yesterday "this is not my job."
