| - This place is located on Advance Road, which is one of those industrial-type streets that run off Islington, just south of Bloor. There is enough customer parking on the side BUT the lot is a bit tight so I would strongly suggest that you try and park closer to the back end where other cars aren't adjacent - you'll know what I mean when you get there.
This happened on my first visit: even though I'm from Etobicoke, I probably have never gone across Advance so, when I parked in the customer lot, I couldn't find the entrance because the actual bakery factory (not the store) is located beside the lot. Anyway, I called to ask where the entrance was but, unfortunately, the woman who answered spoke very little English and just gave me the store hours then slammed (I mean SLAMMED) the phone down on me - nice ... nonetheless, I went about my business.
Anyway, they have an array of breads, pretzels, buns, sweets, you name it and it's dirt, dirt cheap. Most of the loaves of rye are about $2.35 and it's always still warm and fresh. I've also picked up olives buns - $0.40 each, cheese pretzel for like $1.00 - best pretzel I ever ate in my life! However, my all time favorite are the hot dog buns that have sesame seeds all over them. Toast them up on the grill with a hot dog or sausage and you'll be in heaven! I don't recall any of the buns of specialty pretzels to be above $1.00; it's really that inexpensive. Also, you can rest assured because it's immaculate in there.
Customer service is hit or miss. First time when I went to pay, no hello, no thank you, nothing - not surprised though. They treated the gentleman in front of me the same way too - I felt like I was in the Soup Nutsy episode of Seinfeld. You have to ignore most of the rude patrons though - the majority of them have miserable looking faces.
Bottom line: I will never, ever buy bread again from the supermarket. Excellent bakery that I would have given five stars but I can't justify doing so when they slam the phone on potential business.
