| - I came here a few months ago and decided to now share my experience as I remember each detail vividly. Hope it comes out less of a rant and more of a useful tip. So here we go...
At the time, I was living in Vegas for about a year and all four of my tires were about 60% life left, with the exception of my front two tires which had weather wear - the edges were tearing from turning and engine weight in the Vegas heat. So, only 2 tires needed replacing.
After shopping around online, I went to Discount for the location and cheap prices for my tire size. I spoke with the manager, arranged my purchase, and his team went to work. It was going to take 30 min so I walked to the nearby businesses.
When I came back, I stored my bags into the trunk of my car. In the middle of doing so, the guy working on my car needed to talk to me. My two new tires were installed as expected, but the news was one of the two remaining tires needed to be replaced. And because I consider myself a tire-conscious driver (no driving over potholes, no pivoting in place, etc) I asked, "Why?"... Keep in mind this is one of two tires... The guy showed me a giant slash 6-8 inches long in between the tread of my 60% tires' life. ...Hmm...
I was shocked and what made it worse was when I asked how this kind of damage can happen: "Driving over ice and snow." WHAT?! WHERE IN LAS VEGAS IS THERE ICE, I thought to myself ...Hmm...
Then I told him I wanted to keep the tire (so I can show my car enthusiast buddies). But when he said I couldn't take it home, I was beginning to understand what was really going on here and why this "ice" damage wasn't on my other tire as well.
The manager telling me I wouldn't have to pay for this brand new, no-name replacement was the only slight relief out of this whole mess... But that flew out the door when he told me to Come Back to get those other TWO tires replaced... Hmm...
Now I'm driving on one 100% tire on the same axle as a 60% tire which not only lights up my tire pressure indicator, but also throws off my alignment and shakes my steering wheel when braking and driving on the freeways.
Replacing those last two tires may now happen sooner than later, but one thing's for sure, I won't go back to a place that sabotaged me.
