rev:text	My experience here involved visiting a long-time friend who was gravely ill--she had been transferred here from a local rehab facility after she suffered some major setbacks. The staff was genuinely pleasant and eager to help a patient who had no immediate family nearby--while still following privacy laws. When it became apparent that the patient's family members in CA were not responding, and the patient asked that I be given a durable power of attorney for health care matters, the staff was very cooperative about providing her with the appropriate form and having her signature witnessed by an administrative staff member who was not involved in the patient's actual care. It soon became clear to me from observation, talking with the patient, and talking with the nurses that my friend was experiencing symptoms that signaled "end of life" was fast approaching. Her medical directive was clear that she wanted no extraordinary measures taken in such circumstances (NO intravenous feeding, NO surgeries, NO dialysis), yet a couple of doctors were still discussing such steps even when I said that the patient was clearly requesting "comfort care" only. The nurses were fully aware of this & they helped set things in motion so that I was able to arrange for my friend's transfer to a hospice facility where she had a very comfortable few days before the end. Overall, this place is clean, quiet, and filled with dedicated employees--most of whom clearly respected the final wishes of the patient.
