| - My husband and I did the grand canyon south rim tour on Monday. Like other reviews have stated, it is a long day, you will be on a bus all day. Be prepared for this. Bring a neck pillow, a charger for your device, headphones.. snacks!
Our driver, Enrique, was amazing. He talked us through our day and each stop so we were fully prepared for what was coming and how much time we would have. "Jim" the prerecorded tour voice interjected occasionally with facts, stories, and at the end of the trip one message about how it is customary to tip the driver. Enrique never requested tips or badgered the passengers. He made sure we were as happy as possible by showing movies and getting us as much time at the park as possible.
Yes, the company is going to try to upsell you the imax movie, a private Mercedes trip, a helicopter, or a jeep tour. That's their job. We didn't pop for anything extra and had a great day. Those who did the helicopter tour missed bright angel, but still experienced mather (We did the stops In that order). No details on the jeep tour were given other than you are taken to 4 points rather than staying with the bus to see only 2 points. Can't say two extra stops would be worth the extra $100, but it might be!
Great trip if you just want to see the grand canyon. I think this only made me more interested in experiencing the canyon though. As next time I would prefer to have the time to do a trail, etc. This tour just let's you see it, not go into it.
As for the food stops, it's pretty awful. Try to bring your own snacks. Multiple buses are stopping at the same small gas station so be prepared for lines. And I hope you like subway!
Oh: Hoover dam construction is in the way so we only slowed on the highway to see it on the way home.
Also, they screwed up on our strip tour reservation so we had to cancel it. Annoying but whatever.
