| - I had high hopes for this practice as it had come highly recommended. I was looking for a new GP for myself and my children, and after having the most horrendous experience at East Valley Family Medical, my experience at Kachina was a breath of fresh air, at the beginning.
It is easy to schedule an appointment and the staff was always very respectful and courteous. I didn't experience any unreasonable wait times either.
We saw Dr. Fischbeck and he was very professional and I liked his warm personality, especially with the kids.
Where it fell apart for me is that I came in because I was concerned about my son's growth. Sure enough, he measures about 1% compared to other children his age. Protocol is a referral to a pediatric endocrinologist with that low of a percentile on the growth charts (I've consulted multiple pediatric endocrinologists about this issue and all have said he needs to be seen by a specialist, however, due to my insurance, a referral from the GP is required).
Dr. Fischbeck said he wanted to review my son's growth charts from his previous pediatricians. No problem, I'm ok with a doctor wanting to do his due diligence.
I called to follow up and check if they had received the records. No. I follow up with the prior pediatricians to see if the records were sent. Yes. I call Dr. Fischbeck and he will not give the referral. I don't see what the harm is to refer to a specialist, even if it's just to be on the safe side. I don't like the wait and see approach, especially when I'm hearing from other specialists my son needs to be seen based solely on the number.
So I guess it depends on what kind of care you need. I need a doctor who would rather err on the side of caution.
