| - I've seen this place profiled on lots of travel and cooking shows and have always wanted to go and see it. As soon as we pulled up to the full lot I knew we hit a goldmine because the hustle and bustle of the place easily draws you in. We first entered the produce section and I was blown away by the vast amount of produce, people, vendors, and sales pitches I heard while walking through. I did notice that some stands had better looking produce than others and was swindled by a guy who bagged me up 5-6 bell peppers without me first seeing them and sold them to me for $2. Upon further inspection when I got home they were moldy.
The other side of the market smelled amazing and was filled with dozens and dozens of bakeries, butchers, coffee shops, cheeses, coffees, spices, and everything else in between. I brought fresh baked bread, homemade hummus and pita bread, smoked Cajon sausages, and a macaroon. My family and I still maintain it is the best hummus we've ever had.
I'm from Pittsburgh and while we have a marketplace adjacent to downtown, this was about 5x the size and 10x the quality. I couldn't believe how much cheaper everything was compared to back home, and most of the locals were very helpful and friendly in suggestions. If I'm ever back this way I will surely make this the first stop.
