  • We've been to Grist House a few times before but our most recent visit wasn't that great. When we arrived, we noticed that they had removed the parking they once had in their entry lot (which now forces you to find a street parking spot). As it's in a residential neighborhood, street parking is hard to find - especially if it's a busy night in Millvale. When we finally found a spot and walked into the lot, they had a huge fire burning with empty picnic tables around it. It was a cold winter night; so, it made sense that not a lot of people were outside. We walked up the ramp through the outdoor patio which was full of people and headed inside. They were totally slammed and you could barely even get through the door/walk down to the bartender to place your order. It was pretty much shoulder to shoulder no matter where you tried to go. It also smelled SO bad in there. I'm not sure if the smell was because there were so many people in there. It smelled like body odor and feet. Yuck. I realize it's probably hard to maintain crowd control and capacity when you're busy; but, that was just too many people for their bar area. We couldn't stand the smell and bumping into people anymore; so, we went outside on the patio since it was a little less crowded and they had heaters. The only place we could stand was next to a bunch of really loud, intoxicated young adults. I was surprised they had been served any drinks because you could tell they had a little too much already. They wound up leaving to head to another bar and it was a little quieter and easier to hold a conversation. I had the Funky Street which was a sour. Sours are my favorite beers and I was not impressed with this one. I didn't even finish it because it wasn't very tasty. We also had the Hazedelic Juice Grenade IPA and weren't impressed with that either. Since we were cold and couldn't really go inside, we decided to leave. Not our best experience here and we hope for a better one the next time we visit.
