  • You can tell more about a business when things do not go according to plan more than when things go right. I have a 2000 Saturn with very low mileage, so when I needed to replace the transmission, I took it to these guys, because of the quality of work I received in the past. They bought a used tranny with a one year parts and labor warranty and installed it. Immediately after it was installed, Mike noticed that it sometimes made a clunking sound when the car was put into gear, and told me that he needed to warranty the job out because HE knew something was wrong. I took the car while the yard he got parts from located and sent another tranny. Mike asked them to double check that the tranny was good, and after receiving assurances from them, ordered it and called me to schedule an appointment. Obviously, the yard never check it, because during their test drive after installation, the car slipped from 2nd to 3rd. H&M contacted the yard, but was told that they would not stand behind the warranty of the part OR the labor. After losing the argument, Mike got another transmission from them which subsequently was found to be faulty. H&M cut off ties with this supplier, and went elsewhere to find another tranny, which thankfully did work. Total time my car was at the garage: one month. Total number of trannies installed: four. Total times I paid for the job: once. H&M also gave me a loaner vehicle at no charge to drive during the month that my car was inoperable. Mike could have let me drive off with the first tranny that they installed, and I may not have had a problem until after the warranty expired. Because of his integrity, the shop took a huge loss on the job, as they were only reimburse about 10% of what they should have been, but they made a customer of me for life. I tell EVERYONE that asks me about an auto shop to take their car here WITHOUT reservation.
