  • I had to go to this Health center for a physical for a new job that I will be starting. The waiting room was small, but clean & with lots of chairs to sit in. They had a TV on to help pass the waiting time. The front office staff was friendly. I dealt with a female. I have no idea what her name was as she never told me nor was she wearing a name tag. She was very professional & efficient. I showed up apx. 15 minutes before my scheduled appointment which was a good thing because I had to fill out so much paper work for my new place of employment. A young male with tattoos on both arms calls me back. He never introduced himself to me nor was he wearing a name tag. I have no idea what his job title was????? He first brings me back to give a urine sample for a drug test. He prepares the container prior to me peeing in it & after peeing in it. He was wearing gloves. He then takes me to a room next door to continue on with my work physical. He takes my vitals but never shares the results with me. Now it was time to do a respiratory fit test. He then gives me the hood they use for this test & tells me to put it on over my head/face. As I get ready to do this I see inside that it is dirty. Dirty from what looks like a female's foundation stained on the inside. I tell him that it was dirty & gross. He said "I sanitize it after every use, if you want I can do it again so you can see." I explained to him that wasn't going to get rid of what appeared to be makeup off. It had a sweaty, old stinky smell to it too. I really didn't want to put it on as it was so disgusting but what choice did I have if I needed this test in order to start my new job & this guy wasn't willing to provide a brand new one?? He should have been embarrassed to make me put this mask on & shame on this place for providing nasty equipment. Next step was blood work. So the same guy with the tattoos on his arms goes to draw my blood. I see which vein he is going for & say "going for the one you can see hun?" just to make small chat. He states "no one likes to get their blood drawn there" as he points to my inner arm, side near my body. I said "oh really?" Cause I'm thinking thats not true for me & as a nurse & starting IV's & drawing blood I've never heard anyone say that.........he then says "Oh all you nurses just like to complain." Um excuse me...........????????? Did he really just say that???? He didn't even laugh after he said this as to indicate he was joking............I never even told him I was a nurse either. How unprofessional. When he went & inserted the needle into my vein he caused an EXTREME burning sensation!!! If I hadn't seen him using a clean, unopened needle prior to sticking me I would have thought he had it sitting in acid. I've never experience this type of pain in my entire life with a blood draw or IV start. I'm guessing he hit a nerve but he also went through the vein. I'd say he isn't very proficient in drawing one's blood. I told him how bad that was burning but he didn't care, probably thought since I was a nurse I was just complaining "like us nurses like to do." He also kept dropping the collection container off the arm of the chair every time he would remove a blood vial to put in another one. He was using his other hand to apply hard pressure to keep the butterfly needle in place, which really isn't necessary as long as your patient keeps their arm still. After the third time of him allowing the container to drop I offered to hold it for him & he refused. After he was done drawing my blood & removed the needle I once again experienced an increased burning sensation, it actually never stopped while he was drawing my blood. I ended up with a hard spot @ the vein sight & bruising right away. After this I was finally done with him. The sad, scary & disgusting thing about my experience with this guy (who's name I found later on my paperwork--Jeffrey R.) was HE NEVER WASHED HIS HANDS OR USED HAND SANITIZER IN FRONT OF ME THE WHOLE TIME!!! WTH? I then am put in another room & seen by a physician assistant (PA) student who was nice, funny & nervous to death. I had pointed out that Jeffrey never washed or sanitized his hands & how the room we were in now has no sink nor hand sanitizer so how is one to know if your hands are cleaned? He told me he washed them before entering. After seeing this guy the PA came in & saw me then I was done & on my way home!
