| - Once upon a time, many years ago...there was a big, beautiful mall in Phoenix.
It was booming with avid and casual shoppers who were there to visit the 200+ stores, check out the cool shops in the Alley, have lunch in the awesome food court, celebrate your birthday at the nostalgic Farrell's restaurant, or catch a glimpse of the ice skaters in the rink below .
There were big, fabulous department stores like Sears, Broadway, Dillard's, Joskes, and Goldwaters...and three different movie theater locations to chose from.
It was THE cool place to hang out at as a teen. Perhaps your very first job was at this mammoth shopping metropolis years ago... sigh!
That's how I want to remember Metrocenter...as it once was.
I stepped foot in there recently and YIKES, it was very ghetto! Even random people (not here on Yelp) refer to Metrocenter as its new nickname, "Ghettocenter". When a strip mall or mall has a "K-Momo Mart", well then that just speaks for itself...
Sears & Macy's are the only 2 anchor stores left...the other three big box store buildings sit empty.
It was kinda scary and not a place I would go back to for any reason....it reminded me of the 2nd "Back to the Future" movie (which I saw at Metrocenter in 1989) when Marty McFly ended up in the alternate version of Hill Valley.
Maybe MetroCenter started to deteriorate when Arrowhead Towne Center surfaced back in 1994??? Perhaps.
This was the same sad outcome for Christown Mall too...
Bottomline: STAY SAFE and stay away from MetroCenter (even in the daytime)....
