I was in Vietnam for a few weeks earlier this year and for some reason I found myself craving a bowl of authentic, aromatic pho today. I went to Da Vang after looking at reviews here as well as the rankings in the New Times, and it did not disappoint. A generous portion (for $5!) with rich, complex broth, tons of fresh herbs and bean sprouts to add flavor and crunch, and a wide selection of sauces to customize the flavor. In addition to pho it has a wide selection of Vietnamese classics, all at ridiculously low prices. The atmosphere is authentic for vietnam...meaning, pretty sparse and straightforward. That's kind of why I can't give five stars...well, that and because they don't have alcohol I couldn't get a Bia 333 or Huda to round out the meal. Still it is probably the best I've had in Phoenix, and except for the ice cold air conditioning (thank God) it is about as close to Saigon as you can get in town.
