Phoenix--the best place to be between November and March when it comes to outdoor hiking!
I love this area for the many trails that I can hike. Recently I've been starting at Dreamy Draw and have been lucky enough to get a parking spot. Although the lot is quite large, it fills up on the weekends and so it is all about luck sometimes.
Always take water and know from which direction you came. Today, we had to help a young man to know which trail to take to get out for the parking lot. Of course, the first question is always which parking lot did you park in! I like to carry a Garmin so that it tracks where I've been (it is either that or drop bread crumbs, but I think the ranger would frown on that).
All trails app is also helpful if your cell phone will pick up service. Hiking with someone else is important (just in case), and it is more fun!
Often I find myself on the 1A or the 100 out here. Be careful about areas that are closed (there has to be a reason why)--some are for revegetation purposes (I read the sign).
So, parting words--have water, bring a friend, stay on the trails, watch for critters, and don't text and walk off a cliff.
