At first glance it appears to be an old smokey hotel, but the rooms are actually pretty nice, though on he small side. The Valley tower has been renovated and rooms look brand new. The casino is still smoky and gross smelling but what can you expect? It's Vegas.
We stayed for a night as a stopover on a longer road trip and had a good experience. It is conveniently located on the strip with easy access to go walking and exploring. Our room window had a prime view of the volcano at the Mirage also, but the shoe was cancelled due to winds the night we stayed.
There is a generic food court inside and a buffet, but out the front doors you can wake over to McDonald's, chipotle and Panda Express if that's more your speed.
