| - Its very challenging finding the right hotel on the Las Vegas strip. You have to factor in price, convenience (if you're attending a certain show, nightclub, pool party, etc.), amenities, restaurants, style, and ambiance. Now I've stayed at my share of Vegas hotels; at least two dozen different hotels off and on the strip ever since first coming to Sin City back in the 1990's. However, this was my first time ever staying at "Planet Hollywood".
Out of all the hotels on the strip, I would have to say that Planet Hollywood (formerly the Aladdin from 1966-2007) is an average and middle-of-the-road hotel. Meaning that it is not a bare bones/no-frills place nor is it an over-the-top elaborate type of place. My lady and I booked a weekend stay here from Thursday 9/28/17 to Sunday 10/1/17. The primary reason we stayed here is because we bought tickets for Calvin Harris (at nearby Caesars Palace) for Friday night and tickets for Jennifer Lopez (who performs below at the Axis @ Planet Hollywood) for Saturday night.
The prices here can vary greatly depending on when you book and which website/travel agent company you do business with. We got a fairly good deal and the entire check-in process was very painless. Since we rented a car and drove into Las Vegas, the valet service was very quick and attentive. We both decided to take our carry-on luggage without the hotel staff's help. Upon entering, we checked-in through the touchscreen computers and our key cards were distributed through the computer.
The room we got (which was on the 18th floor) was non-smoking and had a comfy California King sized bed. There was a 40" flat screen TV with just a few channels, mini refrigerator, study area, and an excellent view of the Las Vegas strip. The bathroom itself offered a walk-in shower as well as a whirlpool tub. Since I didn't smell or see anything out of the ordinary, we were both pleasantly surprised with our hotel experience. However, one gripe I have is their Wi-Fi. When you pay quite a bit of money for the hotel itself + resort fees + taxes, this should at least be included. Not at Planet Hollywood! They charge almost $15 for high speed internet.
A few things outside of the hotel room are ice machines on each floor (which surprisingly worked good), the "Pleasure Pool" (located on the 6th floor) that is open from 9am-7pm, a gym, a wedding chapel, conference/meeting rooms, and a fairly generous casino area. Planet Hollywood also offers the "Miracle Mile" shops that include a huge variety of popular retailers. There is also a ton of excellent dining options including "Gordon Ramsay Burger", "Koi", "P.F. Chang's", "Spice Market Buffet", and "Strip House Steakhouse". And finally, "AXIS" is the auditorium that has amazing musicians such as Jennifer Lopez, Lionel Richie, and Britney Spears.
Overall, "Planet Hollywood" is the place where you can get the Los Angeles type of vibe. That is mainly what it focuses on. As every hotel on the Las Vegas strip has their own uniqueness to it, you definitely get a lot of options here. The crowd here is definitely younger since it has more of a hip feel to it. But when you factor in the cleanliness of the rooms, accessibility, price, and food options, Planet Hollywood is definitely worth checking out.
As I mentioned, my lady and I had an amazing view of the strip. As wonderful as our trip and stay were, we checked out of our hotel just hours before the massacre that occurred on the evening of 10/1/17. With that said and done, I wanted to express my deepest condolences to all 58 people that tragically lost their lives during this senseless attack on innocent concertgoers. Even though this was a very horrific event, it will not stop me from visiting Las Vegas.
