| - I was quite happy with my stay at this hotel. Located just off the US151 exit from the I-90/94/39 highway passage through the Madison area, it is situated in a very dense commercial area that features multiple retail and dining opportunities. My business in Madison on this occasion was at the University and it was not as convenient to that facility as I would have liked (it was a 20 - 25 minute drive through morning traffic). However, it was much more cost-effective than any central or westside Madison hotel I could find.
The hotel was a little tricky to get to, as it was off US151 on a service road that could be easy for some to miss. I was quite familiar with the area so I had little problem but I could see where it could be a little frustrating to find without a good GPS if you are not a regular visitor to this Eastside neighborhood. It is one of those places you can see when you get off the highway but it might not quite be readily discernible how to get there.
The facade was quite typical of most Hamptons. The ground level with the breakfast area was readily identifiable from the handful of design variations I've seen at these facilities. I arrived at 1:30 AM and found the night attendant who greeted me to be polite and efficient. My keys were ready when I walked in and I was quickly directed to my 3rd-floor room. I was very appreciative of the rapidity with which my check-in was processed. On that note, in general, I found the personnel to be approachable and helpful.
My room was also recognizable in terms of the design as I have stayed at three or four others exactly like it. I found it to be spacious and clean when I entered. The work area was at the back of the room by the window. It was more than adequate for productivity. The WiFi was free and, as a Diamond member, I was able to upgrade to the premium service at no charge. It functioned with only one small, short-lived interruption during the time I used it. The bathroom was sufficiently roomy for maneuverability. The TV service was up to what I would expect. The view from the room was nothing special. However, the environs were quiet and the bed was comfortable to allow good sleep.
The morning breakfast was a little light from my perspective. It seemed to be a somewhat lacking in variety compared to most Hamptons at which I have stayed. There was a non-egg hot dish along with bacon. There were a few bread options as well as oatmeal and yogurt. There were waffle-making supplies and there was also a fruit mix. So the choices were adequate to get by but it seemed to be missing a few things. I think this would be the major complaint if I had one.
There was a small pool that I did not try but it looked to be in good shape. There was also a very small exercise room with treadmills and a few weights.
The AAA base rate for my stay was about $132 per night. My final bill including tax was $305 for two nights. At $152.50 per night in total cost, I was happy enough with this value and, as such, I will consider staying here again on my next trip to Madison.
