  • Stained glass windows, intriguing drink descriptions and names, attentive staff, and an esoteric assortment of snacks -- this bar has all the makings for a laid-back, classy Saturday night. - Seating: There are a handful of two person tables near the bar and then a larger back area with tables that seat larger groups. My boyfriend and I sat at the end of a long table. We were joined shortly after by a group of 4 people sitting at the opposite end of the table (who weren't quiet). Now, I'm all for sharing space, however this detracts from any kind of private evening you are intending on having. Thus, this is a great place for large parties. If you want a private cocktail night, you'll probably need to wait for a 2 person table to open up or maybe request one and while you wait at one of the larger tables. - Drinks: I ordered The Sun Never Sets and was rewarded with a sweet and citrus-y drink. It was flavorful but not delicious. I admit I swapped drinks with my boyfriend after a handful of sips mostly because it seemed a little strong for my taste (perhaps slightly disproportionate). My boyfriend's drink on the other hand was fantastic. He opted for bartender's choice and requested a flavor profile similar to a fizz using gin. He received a sour gin concoction that was splendid. It was tangy, complex, and very drinkable. Bartender's choice was definitely the way to go! - Food: I'm a strong believer in bars having at least a moderate appetizer or small snack menu. This is where the Spotted Owl lacks in print but makes up with product. The snacks of the night were house pickles and seasoned nuts. Both of these were just fantastic. The pickles were sweet, tart, and delicious. The nuts were coated in a sugary glaze and were the perfect balance to our sour drinks. - Overall: My biggest qualm with Spotted Owl is that the food selection isn't larger. Ideally, I would like more than 2 snack options when I visit a bar. Since it's obvious the Spotted Owl does snacks right (they're actually provided by outside establishments), I don't see why they can't expand this menu slightly (and also list their options instead of having customers ask for the snack of the day). With more snacks and slightly less heavy handed drink preparation, I would be sure to award Spotted Owl with 5 stars in the future!
