 | - I rarely seek out Mexican food, but we've been here a few times now. Didn't know it was affiliated with Gallo Blanco until I noticed a few familiar dishes on the menu. That's a good thing, since Gallo was one of the few, more authentic Mexican restaurants I enjoyed.
Food is excellent. You won't find the giant canoe sized plates full of shitty rice, pasty beans, questionable meats, soggy tortillas and watery salsa here like nearly every other TexMex toilet in this town. Everything I've had has been really good; tacos are outstanding, the Naco Torta is extremely good, and they've managed to keep most of the oranges out of the guacamole here (biggest let down of Gallo, ick!). We will try breakfast eventually. Only gripe was an entree steak salad I ordered. For the price, I expected something a little more generous than what was put in front of me. The steak was awesome, but they could have fluffed it up with another handful of greens. That being said, I won't venture too far from their staples in the future...
Drinks are good, a lot of innovative combinations that actually work, but all are super pricey and their quality is highly dependent on who's behind the bar. They have a few good beers, but nothing out of this world.
Where they lose stars, is the service. We have had outstanding service here, but we've also had Denny's like dismissive, inattentive service. Dry drinks, M.I.A. wait staff or bartender and a dash of attitude are what to expect when you strike out on service here. When the right combo of staff is working (seems to be just a few individuals that drag down the entire front of house), then your experience will be drastically better.
Overall, definitely worth a look. The food is great, just don't let the inconsistent service turn you off, and be sure to tip accordingly.
