  • *** Bad pricing, refuse to itemize their estimates for labor vs parts, longer delays for parts** I called Sunny Plumbing for an issue we have with an instant hot water heater under a sink. They came out and confirmed that it was bad and needed replacing. There was a lot of back and forth between the technician, Matt (who was very professional), and his supervisors via cell phone. He must have left to call them 3 times. He finally came back and showed be a quote for over $900. Since $900 seemed high, I asked for a breakdown. Matt at first didn't understand, so I told him I wanted to know cost, labor, etc. He said it was an unusual request and he would have to call someone again. He came back and said his supervisor spoke to his boss, and it's a "flat rate" and they couldn't break it down. I had looked up the model number online while he was on the phone, so I let him know that I could order the part online for $150-$175, so essentially I was being charged over $700 for labor. He told me if I had any questions, I could call his boss but that it also included a 2 year warranty. The part itself has a 1 year warranty so to pay $725-$750 for a small swap (this machine is about 1 foot wide, 8 inches tall, 2 inches wide) is pretty silly, especially since I can buy an extended warranty through the manufacturer for a couple of dollars. He also said the soonest it was available locally is Friday. Long story short, I called Eternal Plumbing, who has better ratings on Yelp anyway, and they are able to do it for just over half the price Sunny Plumbers quoted, and they were able to find the part locally and are installing it first thing tomorrow. As an aside, the receptionist who I spoke with was pretty rude. I had a $50 off coupon for this repair which I asked about when I scheduled. She said if we used this, then they don't roll the $49 diagnostic fee into the repair like they usually would. That didn't make much sense to me - if I have a $50 coupon, my repair should cost $50 less than usual - not $1 since they are now charging for something they usually don't. They did offer to make a one time exception, which I appreciate, but I still feel it's a misleading "coupon" to offer. This did not affect my rating, but thought it might be helpful for others to note.
