| - I have a theme following me... beautiful places, terrible to down right unfriendly service. :(
I have to rate the HOTEL it's self 4 star, but would give the StateHouse at a 2. Those would be for the facility, not the manner service or the food. I would give overall employee rating a 2. A lot of money went into a hotel that seems to want people to stay away!
My check in was fine, the reservationist was fine, the person listening to my complaint(s) at the end of my stay, just as I had reached my breaking point was fine, the car hops were great actually, it's the other 6-8 employees of the Hotel/restaurant/starbucks that were either down right rude or seemed set out to make you feel unwelcomed.
Our room was pretty amazing because of the water view and the high-end appointments, as is expected.
The food; mine tasted like it had rancid potato chips strewn across it. I was actually asked if "You don't like it?" I made the comment to the linecook- the waiter tried to pass off as an Executive Chef, "This tastes rancid, what are these?" He called them artichoke chips. They had to be cooked in rancid oil or sat around long enough to be rancid. Of course, I do not like rancid food! How dare him. He also asked what type of wine I was drinking and offered me desert... why ask about my wine? No thank-you on desert when I haven't had a meal! The shrimp were cleaned inconsistently, a full shrimp with head for show, legs still on another but only on one side- like a child was learning to clean shrimp and the other chopped 1/2 down the body so the size was off, the presentation was terrible and those rancid chips- besides the taste, they looked ridiculous.
The crab soup I ordered prior to my shrimp and mushroom ravioli,(Inedible) was bland, but I was very hungry and truly wanted the soup to be good. There were far too many bit of crab shell and no flavor, Desperate for flavor I asked for a little sherry- NONE, in the whole place, NONE! SO, my 20 y/o son suggested truffle oil. What a shoddily run restaurant! I was so very disappointed. I ended up paying $40 for my glass of wine and my sons barely palatable duck dish, a wellington. I had to get his dish clarified, the wellington part was a mystery and the sauce was too sweet with an unrecognizable flavor. The duck was neither crispy on the outside nor tender inside, it was chewy duck with fat so pale white well, it was gross!
We ordered in Chinese food and had it delivered. :(
I did want a pedicure in the spa, most of the spa was closed. Also, the directions to reach the spa sent us down very long, seemingly unused hallways. We could have been instructed to go to the front door of the spa or even the short cut, right out our hallway as that was on the same level as the spa. The floor plan there could use a bit of a re-do. Office space, blocks entry to the spa- that should be moved.
The house keepers were very loud in the morning, blocking hallways with their carts, not pushed to one side but right in the middle and actually blocking my door! It was very rude, disturbing.
Another disturbing event was trying to get coffee in the morning, offering starbucks is nice, but the cleaner was vacuuming directly in front of the entrance and the lights were off. That means it is close, right? No, it was open with lights off and a cleaner blocking the entrance like my room being blocked. I went in anyhow, order from the counter help, getting an ice water was like puling his teeth, asking about the lights, he said, the light in the display didn't work and the ones in the room were also turned off, I asked about those a blank stare. I know they worked, they were on the night before. I ordered my coffee, mentioned to danish and was told there were no danish, there were Krinkles. There was clearly a display case of different types of danish. Again, just rude means of conversation.
Seemingly Trained in trying to make people feel unwelcome was a theme here at the Edgewater. I sat down with my coffee to try to relax and the vacuum cleaner person came right over with a mop and started mopping around me! I was flabbergasted, a stinking, cleaner filled mop right at my feet. They got what they wanted, I got up and left. That's when I went to the front desk with steam coming out my ears. I was listened to, and given a card for a "free nails". I am unsure what that means... I wanted a pedicure and for my meal and stay to be relaxing and pampering, I had none of that!
Because of the amenities, the hotel, ice skating, proximity to other activities etc.. I will call the manager to chat later this week. Sorely disappointing. I hope they can turn this around, it's a new hotel, I would hate to see it crumble.
