  • I'm happy to report I had a very enjoyable time at OdySea. I saw a lot of different fish that I've not seen elsewhere, and lots of larger fish. I must saw it's a little weird when the person taking your ticket and guiding you where to go says that the first floor restrooms are the highlight of the place...which they might be, being as you look into the shark tank through there. Rest assured, though, there was plenty else to see that was worthwhile. I would like to make clear I encountered a place that was kept very clean, and I saw all life, aquatic and otherwise, kept in excellent surroundings. The water was clear, the fish looked healthy, and the tanks were well lit. While I was there they had a limited time mermaid encounter, where young women dressed up as mermaids and swam with the fish. I thought it was a novel idea. I also saw some people who had paid to walk with the fishes with a pseudo-SCUBA setup where you where an air apparatus and get air through a hose. It looked like fun, but it is an expensive extra. If you can't get to the ocean, it might be worth it. I would also commend the facility for a good place to eat, the Lighthouse Cafe. Besides burgers and pizza, they had a number of good salads and a separate Mediterranean menu. I had the Cobb salad and it actually was chock full of stuff with not a lot of green filler--better than some restaurants. I also had the garlic rosemary fries, but it seemed there was just some flavoring at the bottom, barely tasted, so not worth it--get the regular fries. I also liked the movable theater near the end. It was a novel way to see a variety of life. I especially enjoyed the sea-lions racing around really fast, something you don't often see from an underwater vantage point. Also, the sharks swimming around were impressive in this theater. Considering it's Scottsdale and you need to keep a lot of exotic fish and animals healthy, I can appreciate the cost, even though it would be nice to be less expensive. There are alternatives to keep the cost down: if you go Fridays and Saturdays after 4pm during their promotional period, you pay a lower price and also get $10 to spend at the courtyard shops/restaurants.
