| - I'm so sad to be giving Paulette's 2 stars..... I was soooo excited to be living so close to Paulette's and seeing the donut options just makes my mouth water... I mean, the colours are vibrant, the flavours sound heavenly and IT's a DOUGHNUT -what's not to love right?????
With the store being opened just one week and reading how flavours were sold out super early, I made sure I got there just after 8am to get my pick. The beautiful blue wall colour gives me a sense of comfort, with a lovely ordering counter, and three hardworking individuals working away to make sure that customers are getting their order in a timely manner. The lady who took my uniform was dressed super cute - white uniform and hat to compliment - she had bright red lipstick and was really fitting for this type of atmosphere.
Being a special occasion for me on this day, I wanted to splurge and let S pick the flavour - not surprised, he chose ROOTBEER FLOAT - sounds delicious, right?
I happily brought the doughnut to our house and hurried him to come try this amazing creation. The glaze still seemed fresh as it was still sticky and the whole thing was perfectly coated. I watched as S took the first bite, awaiting his reaction of pure bliss............he seemed to be thinking hard so I told him to wait while I took my first bite before giving me his thoughts. As I started eating my bite, I know what he was thinking - WHAT ROOTBEER FLAVOUR?
nothing. There was not hint of rootbeer, essence, or smell of rootbeer out of this gourmet work of art that seemed to be raving great reviews. My high hopes were completely shattered as I felt like I was completely ripped off. The doughnut tasted like a very well made doughnut, doused in sugary glaze, but that was where it ended. I do not need to pay $2.87 to grab something that I can get at a local Tim Hortons. I want to come back here so badly to try the chicken and the Balsamic Bluberry doughnut (and other flavours), but not super hesitant after this unfortunate incident.
I can only hope that this was a bad batch, one where not enough flavouring was put into the glaze, and hope that someone an give me a better story because I need a little bit of convincing before stepping back inside.
