| - I have been to many other Japanese gardens in the U.S. and this is one of the most beautiful, most thoughtfully designed ones. It is small but beautiful and relaxing. The admission is now $7, and koi food is $1. It looks the garden will continue to get improvements, but it is already quite nice, good amount of seating areas and things to look at. Your view changes looking at the same things from different angles as you stroll around. The amount of parking is small, but that is probably good - if the lot is full, the garden will be full too, so it will be much more enjoyable if it's not packed.
One thing I am a little concerned about, is the welfare of the koi. The koi and the ducks seem to be fighting over territory. We fed the koi and the ducks came over right away and actually got most of the food despite our best efforts. The ducks are a lot faster to get the food, so we tried distracting and misleading them as a team, but it only worked a little. The ducks were actually walking on top of the koi and viciously pecking them a lot, pecking to steal the food and pecking when they got angry when they missed the food. I am not sure how hardy the koi are and we were worried they would be seriously hurt. The ducks were fighting each other, too. The koi have definitely figured out where to look for food, if you just walk up to the water, they come swarming up and opening their mouth, fast.
