| - I am a big fan of gourmet doughnuts as I hate doughnuts from Tim Horton's etc.....
First off, the counter service was phenomenal. They were super friendly and patient as we made our choices (which took forever as there was so much to choose from). If the customer service is solid then I typically automatically like the place, being treated nicely is rare in some restaurants in this city.
Plus when we were leaving someone from the shop (who I assumed was the owner) said thanks to us for stopping by even though it looked like she was in the middle of a meeting. That is a big plus!
Secondly, they had ghetto hip hop doughnuts. A blue icing doughnut with crips written on it, and a red iced doughnut with bloods written on it. Naturally we had to get one of those.....we choose bloods (not for any particular reason). The doughnut itself was tasty and the perfect consistency, however the icing tasted a bit off. Almost like a plasticky taste to it. We think it was maybe from too much food colouring in the icing. Our lips and tongues were a deep red by the time we finished our half of the doughnut.
They had loads of flavours like banana cream, cinnamon sugar, and a lemon meringue which all looked impressive. We went for a maple dip and a pretzel one. The maple dip was our favourite. It had the perfect amount of sweet, salty, and maple flavouring! We enjoyed the pretzel one for the chocolate that was on top, but the pretzel's were a little stale.
This all being said, I am happy that doughnut shops are the new cup cake shops, however I really just want the regular good old fashioned flavours. Like a gourmet honey dip, boston cream, apple fritter, etc.....
Despite the critiques I have I do really like this spot. Its cozy and simple, and I believe that it can only get better! I would definitely go back.
