| - I don't see kouign amann ($3.75) in Toronto very often, so when I spied this Breton pastry when accompanying a friend inside, I immediately jumped in the quick-moving line to purchase one.
Service was fine for the brief interactions. However, my standard for good service in Toronto is getting a small smile and a "How are you?" which I got from the person who served me, but not from the cashier who immediately jumped to conclusions when I was counting change out on the counter and thought I was making it hard for her to get the change. Hold your horses, I was going to hand it all to you once I counted it all out, not make you reach over the register!
The kouign amann was mediocre, frankly. Not enough butter or caramelized sugar and the inside was less tender than an ideal kouign amann (e.g., Dominique Ansel's DKA in NYC). Outside wasn't flaky enough and there was a touch of toughness to the texture as well.
Kudos to Nadege for offering this pastry, but at best, my reaction to it is, "Eh, it's ok."
