Hello Thirsty & Miserable - what took me so long to find you? What a cool unique Toronto bar with an excellent beer menu. I arrived on a Sunday night and the place was empty... which was OK by me.
It looks and feels just like my favourite German bar - "The Nightlight" in Hamburg. It's all about the people, beer and friendly atmosphere - not the way the Bar looks.
Great selections on tap from Beau's, Nickel Brook, Dieu du Ciel, Great Lakes, Flying Monkeys and BellWoods. I enjoyed two pints of Bellwoods White Picket Fence - a refreshing belgium ale.
I was enjoying my second pint when I noticed bottles of Moinette Brune staring at me in the fridge. These caught my eye given a recent recommendation from a Yelp friend. I enjoyed two bottles of the Brune - another great "Belgium style" beer.
The decor is bare bones with about 8 - 10 tables and some seating at the bar. They have a chalkboard with beer options and the draft list is hand written on a piece of paper. It looks like they have a small patio for the summer. I agree with previous comments that the downstairs washrooms smell like fish but it's fine upstairs in the bar.
The woman who works at the Bar (I think she's the owner) is really cool and knows her beer. She was very friendly and I enjoyed discussing beer with her.
On the downside, there are no food options. I tend to get the munchies after a few pints but in fairness, I don't think there would be room to support a food menu.
I will be back for sure. Highly recommended.
