| - The reason why I am giving this place 2 stars is because I have a huge issue with their membership and personal training (PT) contracts. They're not very clear on how the gym/PT memberships go. The overall gym's membership is month-to-month and you can "cancel anytime", and they say the same for Personal Training. In reality, you have to MAIL in your cancellations to headquarters, but I'm finding out online that people are having difficulties with it because corporate won't open your letter to perhaps 3 weeks later! It's just a huge scam to try and get more of your money for longer. They told me the same about PT. That you could cancel anytime. However, you'll have to buy out your PT contract for at least HALF of the YEAR. So sure you can "cancel anytime"...they just don't tell you about the penalty. So in reality, it's not a "pay as you go" membership at all which is what they want you to believe. I got scammed and wasn't told the truth. The written contract was confusing and I felt like I was mislead. Now I'm supposed to pay up because of their excuse of "Oh I'm sorry, it must be miscommunication...but you signed the contract". After having this problem happen to me, I read online that others have felt the pain of their arm being twisted into what others thought was a "month to month" gym/PT contract.
This gym is beautiful, clean and nice but I did notice how certain machines never got fixed. Also, the swimming pool was broken for a full 2 weeks and I never saw people working on it. The PT was not as great as I hoped it would be. My trainer was nice, helpful and taught me a lot about fitness, but they don't give you a lot of time to talk about nutrition tips or exercises you should do for the rest of the week. You have a 25 minute session and you are rushed away because your trainer most likely has another person immediately after you. I totally understand the scheduling, but it totally sucks that you have to ask all your questions *while* you're training. Try remember what questions you have when you're doing lunges with 10lbs weight in both of your hands, sweating while you're trying to maintain your balance.
My advice to others is to sign up for a gym membership if you are FOR SURE to be in the area for a long period of time. If you need to cancel, I suggest to try contacting the gym 2 months prior to your cancellation (because you pay for your 1st and last month up front, but it could take up to 1 full month for cancellation info to process). I would proceed with extreme caution in signing up for a Personal Training membership, especially if you don't know if you want to be doing it for 52 weeks. BE AWARE of the fact about the buyout. The guy mentioned NOTHING about it when I signed up for it. He just told me I could "cancel anytime"...but he just forgot to have mention to me about having to pay up at least $1,400.
