| - Barracuda provided warranty work about a year and a half ago for a motor that had failed. First off, it took almost two weeks to get it installed, so my pool had turned green and had to kill the algae and clean the filter a couple times.
With that though, the motor seemed to be working fine, until about 3 days ago when it suddenly went out. I called the Barracuda and they said I was 14 days out of warranty, but they would do me the favor of coming out and quoting me for out of pocket cost to replace the motor. She also mentioned something of a recall and only using the 2 speed motors now.
I looked up the manufacturer, Ecotech EZ Variable Speed Motor, and the results were horrible reviews and several recalls. So, with that I decided that if I was going to pay out of pocket I would contact the pool company that renovated my pool a couple years ago and they pointed out that the 1 and a half HP motor was installed on my old 3/4 HP pump. In other words, the motor would never run at 1 1/2 HP and since it was warranty work, they really should've replaced the pump to match the motor.
Buyer beware, they install sub par equipment and do not stand behind their work. Looking at other reviews, this seems to be their MO. I have placed a formal complaint with my warranty company.
