  • I know this is a review of "Main Street Station"--but bear with me. For the past decade, my friends and I have made an annual trip to Las Vegas, to party on Fremont Street. We had always stayed at the "Golden Nugget". Not only is The Nugget on Fremont Street, it is at the center of the Fremont Street Experience. For various reasons, we did not get a room at The Nugget this year. We stayed at Main Street Station. And it was a good stay. In terms of location: One end of the Fremont Street Experience is anchored by "The Californian" hotel / "The Plaza" hotel. We were able to walk between The Plaza to Main Street Station in about two minutes. So while Main Street Station is not located "on" Fremont Street, it is within a very short, safe walk to Fremont Street. In terms of room rates: The room rate that we got was very good. We paid considerably less than what we would have, if we stayed at the Nugget--and there are no "resort fees" at Main Street Station. There is a charge for valet parking, but regular parking is free. In terms of room quality: We were pleased with the room size; the rooms were clean and well maintained. All the features we wanted were there. And while I have read some comments about the fact that the hotel is near railway tracks, the fact is that while my widow overlooked the tracks, there wasn't enough noise / train traffic to bother me. With reference to the casino: The common areas follow a Victorian style décor. The lobby has Victorian era antiques, and the look is reminiscent of a train station (thus the name). The look and feel is a nice change from the typical casino. Check in was in was easy and efficient. There are only two eateries on site. One is the Garden Court Buffet; the other is the Triple 7 Restaurant and Brewery (which I will review as separate entries). We had one meal at the buffet which satisfied us; so we ate there again the next day. Here's my bottom line: Main Street Station has a niche. You may notice that most of the guest are in their mid-40's or older. Maybe Main Street is geared towards a budget minded traveler; it delivers comfort at a good value price. The group's consensus is that we'll be back.
