  • I'm all for keeping an open mind for the sake of art. I like to explore new things and get perspective that I might have lacked. When attending the Mattress Factory, I came with a friend who didn't seem willing to try some new art. I figured he would be appreciative of it while there. As it turned out, I ended up agreeing with him by the time we left here. Located amongst several buildings, the Mattress Factory did not deliver. I won't hold it against them, on the day we went some floors were closed. Fair enough, getting ready for a new installation is a regular occurrence at a museum. However what was there disappointed us greatly. One floor was designed to an exhibit which entailed up entering a dark room. I was intrigued. My friend not so much. While waiting on line, (only two at a time) he kept expressing his skepticism while I tried to persuade him to keep an open mind. Our turn came and we walked into a room, with nothing in it except for two chairs. The space you walk in it's only about 8 by 4 feet. You're suppose to sit and be immersed in the darkness. After five minutes of trying to keep an open mind we got out of there. It was not my cup of tea. We then explored some of the other buildings. Some exhibits I enjoyed. Who doesn't love cats sitting on laptops. I mean they're adorable, right? Overall though I was disappointed. It wasn't a terrible experience, but it wasn't a museum I would highly recommend.
