| - Knowing this was a Cuban-Mex fusion, I did not have high hopes for this restaurant. I came here not reading any reviews, because this was the chosen dinner spot and that's that. =)
I ordered the lechon asado, knowing well I would only return if this dish was done right. The plate came out with a side of salad, black beans, a mound of white rice shaped by the bowl and finally the decent amount of pork served on another bowl. Why a bunch of bowl and not just served on the plate? I don't know. The marinated onions that are sour, pairs so well with the semi-shredded pork dish. Tender meat, great flavors, decent portion and I'm sold.
We had an order of yuca, reminds me of my childhood. We used to make a hot dessert with tapioca and cubed yuca, which made this dessert a wonderful winter treat. This yuca is cooked down so the starchy root is perfect with a fork, marinated over olive oil, a drizzle of cheese and a whole load of marinated thin sliced onions rings. Drool!!! This was an excellent side dish, if you love yuca.
The ropa vieja (shredded beef) was on point and my husband really enjoyed his dish too. He opted for moros (mixed black bean and rice) and devoured the dish because it was delicious.
The plantains were buttery sweet, unfortunately doesn't come with the dish, but as a side order.
The verdict- Comparing this to Cuban restaurants to the ones in California, I would say they are on par. Also, if you're into Latin night, they have an area for live music, possibly dancing on one of the weeknights.
