  • Speaking as a lifelong Great Clips customer, I can attest to the fact that change is hard. Real hard. Great Clips has always been a standby for me. I hesitate to say a reliable standby simply because despite my relatively simple haircut needs, the results have been far from reliable. But at $15 each visit, its at least a cheap standby. Still, there are times when the haircut has to look right. Special occasions especially. With Great Clips its always been a gamble depending who my stylist is. Having had enough haircuts gone awry, I finally got up the courage to take a shot at a more professional salon. And fortunately, one such salon is mere steps away from my apartment in Downtown. Coiffeur has been around for awhile now and given the high praise from fellow Yelpers (both men and women), its easy to see why they're still going strong. The salon itself has the modern urban feel you would expect here in Downtown, but thankfully without the pretentiousness I feared. Case in point, my guy Isreal. I've been coming to get my haircut by Isreal for months now and the guy is as enjoyable to joke around with as he is reliable with his tools. Israel will share stories and jokes for days, all the while doing a bang up job on my hair. Every time I've come here he's gotten it spot on. Yes, I pay almost twice as much here as I would at Great Clips, but I get more here too. The treatment here is more personalized, the stations are roomier and more comfortable, the hair rinse is complimentary, the tools at each stylist's disposal far more diverse, and most importantly they've gotten it right every time. As a bonus, they give a discount if you live in the Roosevelt Square Apartments as I do. So I guess in the end change wasn't as hard as I thought. In the case of my hair, change has meant peace of mind and a friendly, fun experience with the staff at Coiffeur. Though to be fair change will be tough the day I have to find someone who's on his game with my hair and his comedy routine as much as Isreal is.
