Scarpetta has been on my list of restraurants to try for a long time. I never got a chance when I used to live in NYC, so during my trip to Vegas, it was an obvious choice. I was so excited!
We ordered the yellowtail carpaccio and the octopus to share. Although both were good, it lacked the wow factor I was expecting from a restaurant of this caliber. The pink salt on the yellowtail was a nice touch but was missing a lot of the acid I usually like with my fish. In other words it was quite bland. The octopus was nothing to write about. We opted not to get the famous spaghetti because another pasta dish caught my eye which in retrospect was probably a mistake. But, how can you turn down squid ink linguine with lobster? This dish was decent, not great. There was a lack of sauce altogether. The squid ink although pleasing to the eye, was too mild in flavor for my liking. For the main entree we got the black cod and the branzino. The cod was delicious. I loved the flaky buttery meat and the roasted tomatoes which gave this dish some Italian flair. The Branzino was overly rich and neither of my girlfriends finished the dish.
Maybe this place was too hyped up for me. It was a huge let down. The ambiance was quite nice, dark and sexy. But we did not get a window table with a view of the fountains as I had requested. Probably wont be trying the one in NY
