  • I've reviewed Mountainside Fitness before and I want to reiterate more of the same. They just don't take care of their equipment and they have not empowered their staff to be of any assistance. I waited 24 hours before posting this review because I wanted to calm down. Here goes: Yeseterday, I had 45 minutes available to me to run, including drive time to the gym. I arrived, walked to three separate dispensers for antibacterial wipes to wipe down a treadmill - all were empty. I asked at the front desk, and was told they were out. Now, why can't someone at the front desk take $25 from petty cash and drive on over to one of 3 nearby grocery stores or a Walgreens and purchase some wipes? Can't answer? Me, neither. Anyway, I proceeded to put hand sanitizer gel on a towel and I wiped down machine #1. The TV sound was scratchy (bad headphone jack), but I didn't want to take the time to find a new machine. So, I started running. 8 minutes in, the whole machine shut down. So, off I went to the front desk to report the broken machine. The only problem was that the machine's reference number was missing on the machine, so I had to describe the location of the machine. The front desk gal who was very nice, asked me to please direct their maintenance man to the machine. Between driving to the gym, looking for wipes, getting sanitizer, running for 8 minutes and then having to tell two separate people that the machine was broken, I was about 20 minutes into my original 45 minutes of time. I quickly jumped back onto another machine, connected to the TV and went to start the treadmill. The treadmill would not start. By the time I would have found another machine, I would have been able to run for only about 10 minutes before I would have had to drive home. On my way out, I made it very clear to the front desk that I was angry. I believe the phrase I used was, "this gym is crap." The gal, very nice, said that I should put a note in the suggestion box. I told her I would not do that. I've talked to management, written emails, put (now, 2) reviews on Yelp and nothing gets better. The gym has remodeled, added an exercise room and put in new machines (that are also regularly in disrepair and so awkward that if you try to change the channel while running, your body has to push up against the handles). However, they don't take care of their existing infrastructure. Lipstick on a pig. I was so angry that Mountainside had again wasted my time with their broken machines, no wipes and poor customer service. Once again, I need to state that I know I can quit this gym. I don't use it often...I usually run outside and I belong to another fitness facility (because Mountainside no longer offers the great boot-camp class that I used to take there) . The only reason I keep my membership is that I like to run in a gym when the weather is bad or if it is early and still dark outside.
