  • I couldnt believe it when I heard Madison was getting another local music store, after the closure of Good & Loud and the downsizing of Ward Brodt. And yet we did (and Ginter's expanded and Dave's Guitar Shop is coming, but I digress). Heid Music originated in Appleton, WI. My mom, who grew up in Appleton and has taught piano lessons since she was a teenager (she now has a teenage granddaughter and is still teaching) had her first recitals at their flagship Appleton store. Their focus is on piano, band, orchestra, and sheet music, but they also have a decent selection of guitars. Not much by way of basses, keyboards, or drums, but they do have SOMETHING. It's a little more mellow than Guitar Center, Ginter's, or Good & Loud. You wont hear 20 different versions of Smoke On The Water at the same time. You may hear several piano pieces, all at varying skill levels. The staff has always been helpful to me. I've bought smaller things there (straps, strings, etc) but havent made a big purchase yet. I do check there consistently. Worth the stop on your way to Guitar Center. Definitely better than Guitar Center in a lot of ways.
