| - Because of the private party: see review below, I felt pressured to rush through a visit with a small child, when I had paid for a whole afternoon. Not just 2 hours. We did see pretty much everything but it put a pall on what I thought was going to be a relaxed afternoon. On top of which there were school groups. This is perfectly understandable but frustrating as when the school groups come into a building, a small turn of the century building where room is already limited, and you've got a fidgety easily distracted small child in your care... well you can imagine. We were rushed out of building after building, ended up leaving a water bottle in one of the first places we were in so had to deal with an upset cranky child while only part way into our visit who wouldn't eat with out drinking out of HIS water bottle. Problems just seemed to compound and I felt very stressed when it should have been enjoyable. Also, the interpreters seemed reluctant to say much when not in the presence of the larger groups. It sure would have been nice if they told us to start off in the exhibit in the visitor centre, as it would have added an interactive element to the visit. Also, I've been to another pioneer village in the country where people were in the general store selling things which was a nice touch (like pickles), it really put you into the historic picture. And the option to buy a drink would have been helpful dealing with the aforementioned water bottle issue. At this place they sell everything in the gift shop and some of the toys were imported made in china junk, like cats made out of cat fur. I love historic villages, buildings, museums so I could overcome issues like lack of information etc. but WHY do they sell tickets for a full afternoon when you may not even get to enjoy it? Really seems unfair.
