| - Maybe I'm out of line for this review, but I don't think so. I didn't use AMJ Campbell for my move, but I felt it was worth yelping about the reason why I didn't, and moreso the rather ridiculous treatment I got from them.
Backstory: I moved from the Toronto area to Halifax NS on rather short notice last year, and put most of my possessions into storage in Ontario. Now, it's time to bring them out here, so I contacted a few major, supposedly reputable movers to discuss it. AMJ Campbell has a deal with CAA so that's why I contacted them. Their initial quote wasn't bad, and comparable to another provider that a friend had used with success.
So I narrowed my list down to two and flew out to Ontario to meet them, show them my storage unit, and firm up the quotes. The other provider (I'll write the review when the move is done), before we even met, had given me a whole lot of information, been very friendly, knowledgable, and when we met was just the kind of sales person you'd want to deal with.
Not so the guy from AMJ. He seemed in a rush, told me they'd need to bring in a "shuttle truck" because their truck couldn't turn around in the complex, and the cost of that blew their cost advantage out of the water. I had also indicated that there maybe some repacking of some of my stuff needed as we'd left in a hurry. To the other provider, no big deal. To AMJ, well, you'd think I was asking the guy to do it himself.
Anyhow, back to Halifax I went, and I got pretty busy, got updated quotes from my short list and decided to go with the other company. Dude from AMJ calls me today, I tell him, "I've decided to go with another company, but thanks for your time coming to meet me." He says "Why?", almost in disbelief. I said, "Well, it's a bit of a hassle to have to pay for your "shuttle truck" another company says I don't need, and that if they do they won't charge me anyhow, and cost-wise that made the difference. Again, I appreciate your time, thank you." I didn't think I needed to say anymore than that.
His response, snidely: "Good luck with the service." Click.
Really?
I hate salespeople who think they have a sense of entitlement to the business. I told him he was one option I was considering, and the vibe was bad from the get-go.
I'm a salesman myself. I don't win all the business, but I certainly don't treat people like that when I don't. I thank them for giving me an opportunity to bid on the business, wish them well, and remind them that I'd be happy to discuss future opportunities. That's how it's done.
