  • I've never written a review before, but after the terrible service I encountered at this gym, I was compelled to share my two cents to help unsuspecting Torontonians avoid a very unpleasant experience. I had won a "free" 30-day pass to extreme at a charity fundraiser. I was shopping around for a gym, so I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, it's not the kind of "free" they lead to you to believe. No, these guys at extreme are pretty sly - they lure you in, get your contact info so that they can proceed to pressure you, harass you to sign up and phone you multiple times a day. You'd think the sales reps would have some ounce of professionalism. I've never seen such aggressive, desperate sales tactics. Anyway, I dropped in to set up my 30-day trial pass and I told them I didn't want to commit to a full membership without trying it out first. That's when the guy proceeded to go off into a full rant about how they needed to protect their own interests to prevent their "high-class facility" from being a loitering area for "students and bums." Little did he know that he was talking to a student, and that's when he corrected himself and said that I was an older, more mature student who wouldn't do that. Still he wanted a PHOTOCOPY of my credit card to hold onto and they made me SIGN a contract just in case. For some reason, I forgave him and the half hour pretentious talk about the money they spent on the facility and their celebrity marketing tactics- whatever. No point being offended, I wasn't going to have to deal with him much anyway right? Wrong. The sales manager began to hound me day after day, multiple times a day for a simple piece of paperwork that HE had forgotten to do! In class, I'd see my phone ring, first with a number on call display, a few minutes later a second call, this time an unknown number (as though I wouldn't know who it was the first time). A few days of this, and it honestly started to stress me out! They also gave me "free" 1-day passes for friends and regrettably, I had brought a few friends. At first my friends weren't even let in without being seen by a sales rep. They had to hand in a piece of ID as well - which was fine until we decided to leave. The girl at the front desk had given all the IDs to a sales rep, who proceeded to hold the IDs hostage unless my friends promised to come back to discuss signing up. That day, my own sales rep followed up with a voicemail...."I see you brought your friends in today." Creeps me out!! All in all, it was an unsavory experience to say the least. Nice gym, but I'd much rather have paid for a month elsewhere so I could just focus on working out rather than second guessing whether it was appropriate for the sales team to hassle me.
