| - Located strategically where the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers join to form the Ohio, Point State Park is a glorious patch of open space that features a gigantic fountain at its tip, as well as plenty of green space that provides a welcome respite for downtown workers and residents, as well as a gathering point for public festivals.
The strategic and symbolic location can't be understated, as it's long been settled by Native Americans and was fought over by both the French and British. To this day, you can find traces of both colonial presences here. There are markers where Fort Duquesne once stood, and there's also the Fort Pitt Blockhouse, the only standing remnant of Fort Pitt and the oldest known building west of the Allegheny Mountains.
If you're interested in the area's history, the Fort Pitt Museum is here too. Otherwise, it's a pleasant patch of greenery where you can take in glorious views of the river, the fountain, and the downtown skyline.
