  • I stood in THE WALL. That's right! THE Mother F'ing WALL! And I cried. Not sure why, and I wasn't expecting it - but standing in The Wall, I cried. And I called my friend (and woke him up way too early AZ time on a Saturday morning) to tell him how much I would have loved to share the moment with him. I was impressed with a lot of the exhibits - some I expected, some were truly unexpected treats. Janis Joplin's Porsche was expected - a lot of the instruments were expected - the original manuscript of Hunter S. Thompson's "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" was a great surprise! In the punk display, a handwritten letter from the members of the Damned to the members of the Ramones was a treat. And so it went throughout. In 1990, during one of the family trips to NYC, my parents, an aunt, a couple cousins and I were in SoHo. I begged to walk over to CBGB's, and the whole group agreed to humor me. It was the middle of the afternoon, they were closed, but the manager let me go in and sit on the stage. That was my first "and I cried" moment related to music history. We took a photo of me standing under the awning, and continued our trip. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame now has that awning. So, my coworker took a snapshot of me standing under it. All my life's a circle! I don't know that I would ever intentionally go to Cleveland just to see this amazing collection - but if I am ever in the area again, I would definitely go back!
