  • whew. I don't even know where to start honestly. Let me start here: I've moved 5 times in the last 5 years and had movers for every move. So I have a good gist of services moving companies offer and how they perform and etc. I hire moving services for a few reasons 1) So that I don't mess up my unit or my own furniture trying to do so myself. 2) So I don't have to disassemble my bed myself. 3) I'd rather pay someone to quickly move my things rather that have to do it myself (call me lazy idc) 4) In most cases the movers are stronger than myself (and I'm a pretty strong chic, think NCAA Div 1 shot and hammer thrower strong) With all of that being listed, let's start with where Bellhops went wrong. Bellhops is the Frontier/Spirit of the moving world. The only difference is Frontier/Spirit clearly state on their website that you are paying for THE BARE MINIMUM. I didn't find out until the day of the move that all bellhops does is move your furniture. They don't come with tools to disassemble furniture, they don't come up with blankets or straps or tape or dolleys to help safely move your furniture without scraping it. NOTHING. Them young boys came up there with just themselves. After looking through all my paperwork I saw in the fine print that they don't have tools. Unfortunately for me, when I'm in the middle of planning for a move I don't sift through small print. If it's not plainly shown to me what I'm getting before scheduling the move either on the site or through verbal communication I won't see it as I also have a thousand other things to do when trying to move. However, it did say in the fine print that they come with blankets and straps. Didn't see not one blanket. Probably why my dresser was scratched *upside down smiley emoji* Awesome. So I had to drive to lowes (luckily across the street) to get tools to disassemble my bed. Once me and my bf started disassembling the bed the movers came in and just started looking at us for like 5 minutes and asking if we were ok. IF YA'LL DON'T TAKE YA'LL ASSES AND MOVE MY DAMN FURNITURE AND STOP STARING AT US. I told them ahead of time my dresser was heavy and they may need a dolley. The guy tilted it and said "oh it's not bad". When they went to carry it out the apartment they scratched the dresser (which hadn't been scratched in 4 years of moving) and they took out a chunk of sheetrock in the wall. Great. There goes my security deposit *insert upside down smiley emoji* They were slow. Not slow like your uncle pookie who you asked to help you move, but slower than what $139 an hour looks like (and slower than any other mover I've had). I'm used to movers getting in and getting it done. The bellhops were so slow that my boyfriend decided to help too. I didn't pay for my people to be moving too but I'm also not paying $1000 cause someone wants to take all day. At the destination location they broke an outside fixture and scraped my door frames to hell. K. If I wanted 2 weak men with what looks like no moving experience and no tools and no equipment then I would've chose some randos off UNCC campus and offered $75 each and a hot meal. Or me and my bf could've rented a truck and done it ourselves. Long story short they weren't worth $400 for moving services. I'd only hire them if you're here with no family and friends and/or you're too weak to move items yourself.
